Don't Stop Setting Goals

Jun 03, 2020

Maybe it’s time to stop setting goals.

Did you ever think that someone would ask you to stop setting goals? Well, once you learn the difference between goal setting and goal achieving you will then understand why this is so important.

Let me share a real “punch in the face” moment for you! Yes, this is what it felt like.

So, I am a type “A” personality. My friend Tina Black calls me a “crazy High Achiever”.

Every 6 months I do a life review on all of the important aspects of my life. Spiritual, money,  family, career, health, relationship. I pull three images from each category and I think about what I want to achieve in the next 6 months in each area.

I used to hit them and feel great! And then I reached a plateau in my life for a very long time. I wasn’t achieving my goals, but I kept setting them. And then I would feel really bad for not being able to achieve them.

I was so frustrated!!! This was not aligned with my type “A” personality so I started feeling depressed. Like I was failing.

I had a coaching call with my mentor Paul and he told me, “Christine you do not need any more goals and you don’t need any more deeds. Your goals are already here. You need to focus on becoming!”

Then I started to invest in myself in a different way. I stopped focusing on my skill. And I started to focus on my growth,  My personal growth. I started to invest most of my time reading about Growth. Topics like…

  • Consistency
  • Awareness
  • Reflection
  • Modeling
  • Curiosity
  • Mindset
  • Self worth
  • Consciousness
  • Money

I was focused on goals setting and not goal achieving. I had a self-worth issue, not a goal-setting issue. And this ran deep. I had to go down deep into some areas of my life I did not want to go. But one thing is for sure I would never achieve the life I was designing if I had not done this work.

In the book, Psycho-cybernetics Maxwell Maltz - says ”you can never outperform your own self-image”

This is key to Goal setting and it was a game-changer for me. So, my challenge to you is to go where it’s uncomfortable. And start becoming a better you:)
